Privacy Policy
Effective November 3, 2026
ScorePerch (scoreperch.com) hosts online leaderboards for games made by independent developers. This policy explains what ScorePerch collects from players of those games and from developers who use ScorePerch, and what we do with it. Each game also has its own privacy policy from its developer; where a game publishes one on ScorePerch, it is linked from the game's page.
1. The short version
- Players: no accounts, no email, no real names — a nickname, a random player ID and best results.
- Developers: an account with your name, email and a securely hashed password.
- No advertising, no tracking across apps or websites, no selling or sharing of data.
- The public pages of this website set no cookies.
2. Players: what a game sends to ScorePerch
When you finish a level (or a round) in a game that uses ScorePerch, the game sends:
- Nickname — the player name you chose in the game, shown publicly on the leaderboard. Please don't use your real name.
- Random player ID — a random code the game creates the first time it runs. It is not your device's hardware ID or advertising ID; it only keeps your best results together.
- Game results — which level, your time or score, number of moves, and the date.
- Technical details — the platform (for example iOS) and the game's version number.
Only your best result per leaderboard is kept. Nicknames are checked automatically, and unsuitable ones are replaced with a generic name. We store this on behalf of the game's developer, who can see and moderate the leaderboards of their own games.
3. Developers: your account
If you create a developer account we store your name, email address, a securely hashed password, when you accepted the Terms, and the games, boards and settings you create (including the details you enter for your game's privacy page). We use your email only for the account: verification, password resets and important messages about the service. We count API requests per game to show you usage and to prevent abuse.
4. Server logs and security
Our hosting provider's servers briefly log technical information such as IP addresses and request times. We use it only to run the service, to limit abuse (for example, too many requests from one address) and to fix problems.
5. Cookies
The public pages of scoreperch.com (games, leaderboards, privacy pages, support and developer pages) set no cookies. The developer dashboard and the admin area use a session cookie and a security (CSRF) cookie while you are signed in; they are necessary for signing in and are not used for anything else.
6. Why we use this data
To provide the leaderboards and the developer service, to keep them fair and safe (removing impossible scores, offensive names or abusive accounts), and to keep the service running. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the service you use, and for developer accounts, our agreement with you (the Terms).
7. Sharing
We don't sell, rent or share your data. Nicknames and results are public on leaderboards by design, and a game's developer can see its players' nicknames and results. Data is stored with our web hosting provider, who processes it only on our behalf.
8. How long we keep it
Leaderboard entries are kept while the game uses ScorePerch; when a game is deleted, its data is deleted. Developer accounts are kept until you ask us to delete them. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short time (typically up to 30 days).
9. Children
ScorePerch doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children: no real names, contact details or locations are requested from players, and nicknames are filtered. Developer accounts are for adults only. Parents can ask us to remove a child's leaderboard entries at any time.
10. Your choices and rights
- Players: email us (or the game's developer) your nickname and the game to have your entries removed; change your name in the game to update it.
- Developers: update your details in the dashboard, or email us to delete your account and all its games.
- Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA) you may have further rights, including access and correction, and you can contact your local data protection authority.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
